Folks, if you download your PMP Handbooks (Which you SHOULD be doing as part of the application process, you will see that in the last 7-10 days PMI has made a SIGNIFICANT change in the qualifications to take the PMP exam.

Previously, if you look at pages 8 and 10 of the handbook it only required that you "lead and directed project TASKS" (emphasis is mine). Somewhere around April 20, PMI made a subtle but very important change. Now they are requiring that you establish that you have "led and directed projects".

While PMI remains fuzzy on what exactly they mean by "lead and direct" this subtle difference as I interpret it means that in order to qualify to sit for the PMP, you now need to actually log hours as a PROJECT MANAGER and not simply as a project team member.

While I am no fan of PMI, it does seem they are finally raising the bar and moving towards making the PMP a bit more of a truly professional credential. The big question becomes, IF they are raising the bar on those taking the PMP exam from April 20 onwards, then how are they going to upgrade those who took the PMP exam prior to that date who do NOT have 4500/7500 hours experience actually managing projects? Going to be some very interesting discussions floating around the world on this topic, I am sure!!!! Will keep you posted......
